NBC Fork Yeah!

NBC has been trying to return to the top since the glory days of Must See TV. And I think this season has been a strong indication that they’re well on their way. As your favorite TV shows approach the end of their seasons (I know, already – what the fork!), you may be looking for new shows to watch. The Good Place is one you’ll want to add to your list – if you enjoy comedy, Kristen Bell being a badass, and exploring what sometimes seem like absolutes.

The Good Place finds Kristen Bell’s character Elenor Shellstrop waking up in the titled Good Place instead of the other place. The twist is that she was a horrible and selfish person in real life and knows that she doesn’t belong there.  The only  other people who know that she doesn’t belong there are Chidi (William Jackson Harper), her intended soulmate for all of eternity and Jianu (Manny Jacinto) who has a secret of his own.

This show has many MANY strengths – including Ted Danson as Micheal, the architect for the good place. But it’s also smart tv – that in its premiere season was able to explore themes often discussed in intro philosophy classes about morality and obligations to the greater good. Fortunately, you can watch the entire season on  the NBCs website. This show is full of twists, things are rarely what they seem – and Vulture published a great recap – about the twists in the season finale – obviously it includes spoilers, you’ve been warned!

The Good Place returns for Season 2 this fall.
